raphael okay, I found a solution. I created two nested styles to first do the first number and then do the drop word. In other words, rather than using the script to apply the drop word character style, the nested style does it and then ran the script. Boom!
Ariel Beat me to it... Yes, indeed, using the script to apply the drop word char. style is merely a convenience, there's nothing special about it, and sometimes it's better to apply the style using native InDesign features, as in this case.
