Regarding the Grep 2 Anchored text box script:

I need to know if this can handle placing the anchored text box in different locations for even and odd numbered pages. On an odd-numbered page, it goes in the left margin; on an even-numbered page, it goes in the right margin.

Also, you mentioned that it is possible to purchase the FN separator alone. What is the price?

This is something that InDesign should be able to handle automatically. In the anchored object settings of the object style you'll be using, make sure to check the "Relative to spine" checkbox.
So it's not something that would be specific to GREP to Anchored Object, it's just a general InDesign feature of anchored objects. You would use GREP to Anchored Object to create the anchored objects and apply an object style to them, and then just set the object style options to "relative to spine."

Also, you mentioned that it is possible to purchase the FN separator alone. What is the price?

Ariel Thank you for your prompt reply. Question re anhored text boxes: how can you select two achored text boxes on the same page in order to align them When I select one and then shift/Ctrl click the second one, the first one is deselected.

You can't select more than one anchored object at once. Create guides and use them to align them.

I downloaded the script, installed it, and tried to run it, and got this error -

Ok I got it to activate. There is no manual on how to use. I looked in the footworks demo manual and saw that i need to create an object and then name in the layer "divider" but that did not work, because in this script it is looking for an object named "div", It would have saved me time and agravation if there were correct instructions how to set it up.

Anyway, after creating that object, I got it to work. But it only works once, It creates another object as you can see and then if i make any changes to the object "div" and run the script it will not execute. I have to erase the new object, change the div object, and rerun. Is this the way it should be functioning?

How did you manage to figure that out? But yes, there should be instructions. This is one of the reasons it is not yet publicly available.

If you want to change the divider, follow the following steps:
(1) Run the script, and Shift+click on the "Fix Dividers" button. This will remove all current dividers.

(2) Close the script and make any changes to the div object needed. You can also simply delete the div object, create a new divider, and call it div in the Layers panel. But it is important to close the script if any changes to the original object have been made.

(3) Rerun the script and click on "Fix Dividers." You should now find that your new divider is used.

Does that make sense?

Little tedious but I will try.
But now I have another, bigger problem:
When I tried to run on the project I am doing it crashed ID totally. Rebooted the program and ran it again and froze ID and had to shut it down via the task manager.
How can we get this working?

It's very unlikely that the issue has anything to do with the script.
Sounds like a corrupt file. Your best bet is to export the file to IDML, then reopen that IDML file.
And it's actually not tedious at all! Perhaps you've misunderstood the instructions. Basically, once the 'div' object is set up, just run the script and click on "Fix Dividers" whenever you need to apply and/or move the dividers to their correct position above the footnotes. One click and it's done!

Ariel Your best bet is to export the file to IDML, then reopen that IDML file.

I did as instructed and ran the script and the program froze and had to close it via the task manager. Please inform what we can do here, as this is holding me up.

scult22 What version of InDesign are you using? There was a problem of InDesign freezing and Adobe recently released an update which fixes a lot of these issues, so make sure you are using the very latest version.
Beyond that, the script is tried and tested and does not cause InDesign to freeze.

But as I say, the script is tried and tested and is almost certainly not the reason for InDesign freezing here.

I have the most updated version (i downloaded it yesterday)

I don't think anyone "is at fault" it is just that it is not working for me. If i cannot get it to its thing till after 9 BeAv i will let you know and we will have to run a refund.
